What is special about Rolfing?
Rolfing promotes the idea that there is an optimal individual alignment for each individual relative to the Earth’s gravity field. In this more aligned state, the body can function most economically, which in turn promotes a sense of ease and well-being. Through this we may optimise our individual sense of health, in line with Dr. Rolf’s belief that there is an inherent individual ‘best alignment.’

What is the content of the training?
There is a combination of class work, observation, practical application, study and hands on practice under supervision. All Basic Rolfing Training classes are guaranteed to have a maximum of 10 to 1 students to instructor ratio. The quality of the training is exceptional and you will be fully guided through each stage with regular feedback sessions with your instructors.
Do I need special qualifications to become a Rolfer?
You will also need certain qualities! You will need natural communication skills. You will also need maturity of thought and good life skills which is why the ERA has a minimum training age of 25. From an academic point of view you will need to be of university level or able to show that you have had a successful professional career.
What do I need to start the training?
You will need to be accepted by BARSI, having met their entry standards and requirements and you must have received a Rolfing ten series and five sessions of Rolf Movement, or three movement sessions and attendance at a movement workshop. BARSI can put you in touch with a practitioner in your area. At the end of the Phase 1, the Admissions Committee of the European Rolfing Association will decide whether or not you are accepted into the next phase of the training.
How can I fit Rolfing into my life and work?
The training program is designed with your life commitments in mind. You may choose to either undergo the majority of your training in an intensive format (offered at our training center in Munich) or by module (currently offered in London in English, in Munich, Germany in German and in Bologna, Italy in Italian). There is some scope for moving between these trainings.

Is there a final exam?
There is currently no exam. The philosophy of the training is such that you will receive regular feedback on your progress during individual mid-term and final interviews with the teachers. Any issues of concern will be brought to your attention during the training. In the future a final examination may be introduced.
When can I start work as a Rolfer?
After you have completed your Basic Rolfing Training – but your learning with the ERA continues.
Can I make a living as a Rolfer?
Rolfing can either be full-time or supplement other employment. As a self-employed private practitioner, the decision is yours. To practice you must remain a member of the ERA and abide by its standards of practice. As a member you will be entitled to use the registered service mark ‘Rolfing®’ and the distinctive ‘Little Boy’ logo, recognised worldwide.
How can I find out if I would be a good Rolfer?
Your instructors will guide you. Throughout your training you will receive thorough feedback. You will learn the best communication methods for you and your instructor will offer honest advice. You may also like to engage with the BARSI’s Orientation courses and Pre-Training, which will introduce you to the field of Rolfing and give you a sense of its purpose and direction.
I have no experience with bodywork; can I still become a Rolfer?
Yes. The Rolfing Pre-Training program is designed for people interested in Rolfing who do not have the necessary educational background in bodywork. If BARSI-ERA determine that you needed more educational foundation work prior to starting the training, they would be clear and discuss this with you.
How do I apply for the training?

BARSI offers a Rolfing Modular Training in London. Other ERA trainings are currently offered in Munich (Intensive in English and Modular in German) and in Italy (Modular and in Italian only).
I would like to start Rolfing training immediately. What do I need to do?
Contact the BARSI and discuss your next step. The easiest way is to fill in the registration form.
Is there a continuing education process after certification as a Rolfer?
As you would expect of any credible practice, advancement is essential. Yes, the ERA offers an Advanced Training and a Rolf Movement Training. Courses are also continually being offered by the International Rolf Faculty in many countries around the world – some of these by those who originally studied with Ida Rolf – you will have access to these through your certification as a Rolfer.
What is the difference between Intensive and Modular training?
Whichever route you choose you earn the same qualification. It is simply a matter of the modular training being spread over a greater time period. To earn your first certificate with the intensive format takes approximately one year. The modular format is spread over two years.
I cannot get leave from my job for long periods of time. Can I still do the Rolfing Training?
In this situation, the modular format will be a better option for you. This is the training we at BARSI are offering you in the UK.
What additional costs should I expect during the Rolfing Training?
You should expect to pay for accommodation, food, books, travel and any incidental expenses you may incur.
